On the last day of July we had a chance to take out our new Pelican kayaks. We had picked them up a couple weeks earlier, but smoke from wildfires had kept us indoors. Even though it was still a bit hazy, we had a wonderful time paddling around on Lake Tahoe. |
Bob really enjoying his new kayak on Lake Tahoe. Lisa's boat is 10 feet long and Bob's is 12. They track great and are very fun to paddle around. |

This summer Hannah got a great internship surveying abandoned mines with the Nevada State Division of Minerals. Here she is in Carhartt work pants with gear and cooler ready for Bob to take her to her first day in the field. |
Dropping Hannah off at the Division of Minerals building in Carson City. |
The group dry camps in remote places across Nevada for a week at a time. While out they get to enjoy gorgeous views like this sunset over Gabbs, Nevada. |
Hannah poses in front of one the many abandoned and hazardous mines in the state. This one is just outside of Gabbs where her and her team will record and secure it to make it safe. |

Hannah has sure enjoyed her time in the wilds of Nevada and has found that she loves field work! No surprise there... |
The team of seven interns were required to secure dangerous mining features by building barbed wire fences around them and putting up warning signs. Hannah has gained so much from this internship including many practical skills. |
On June 25th we went camping for a three-day, two-night trip at Sugar Pine Point State Park on the west side of Lake Tahoe in California. It was the sight of the Nordic Events of the 1960 Winter Olympics. Bob and Caleb did a lot of Mountain Biking while here on many of the trails built for the Olympic Nordic events. |

Sugar Pine campground was very woodsy with lots of shade, biking trails, and access to the beach on Lake Tahoe. |
Caleb is a great camper and always ready to help clean up. |
Lisa making one of her many wonderful camp meals. |
Now that we have a hard side camper, the kids have elected to set up their own camp site. This was Caleb's setup at Sugar Pine. |
Our fine son Caleb with our camp pup, Chester. |
Chester enjoy one of the many sticks available in this campground. He thought he was in Heaven. |
On June 10th Bob, Lisa and Caleb set up camp at Fallen Leaf Lake for an overnight outing. This was the view at lakeside the morning of the 11th with Mount Tallac in the background. |
The lake was as beautiful as ever. |
Morning coffee and relaxation at camp. |
Scrabble has always been a traditional game for our family. It was so fun playing it again while in camp. |
Bright and early on June 5th, Bob, Hannah and Tristan Bailey set out to hike a section of the famed Tahoe Rim trail (TRT) from Kingsbury Grade to Spooner Summit. Lisa came along as the vehicle shuttle person and only hiked the first couple of miles with the group before hiking back to the car. This is a picture of Tristan and Hannah hiking along "The Bench" with Genoa Peak (9,150 feet) in the background. |
