Bear Me On, Oh RiverTo thee I mustWrite now River, To thee I must sing this song Bless me with your glances and your soft swirling dances Oh River, bear Me along May I yet return to you River May you bring me home to the shore Your fury like fire, "Ever on!" your desire Bear me along once more Hold me softly, Oh River With tenderest Mother's care And the birds Still will call As you race on Through it all Oh River, carry me There Carve out the Mountains, Oh River Bend them all to Thy will The rocks all to bow And pay homage now, To thee, who is Never once still Bear me on Oh River, Lift me on To the sea I sing thee This song, As you bear me along Oh River, I’ll travel with thee. |

Rain In Deer Creek CampThe rain came down,The sheeting rain That drove on through the night Across the land of wonders wet The sun gave off no light The rain came down, The sneaking rain That found you when you were weak And it made you curse and grumble and growl Cause your tent had sprung a leak The rain came down, The grey rain That pounded through the land Even mountains built in fire Against the rain won’t stand The rain came down, The cloudy rain That hid the sun from view Dinner is wet and on you fret Clean sand is mush and glue The rain came down, The dancing rain That stirred the river to fury The creeks ran high and socks won’t dry As beneath the rain you hurry The rain came down, The darndest rain That caught you unprepared Your tent is down, your laundry’s up As if the rain ever cared This poem is for my fellow poet, Alex Heindl, who saved me from a snake and told me my poems were good. |
To a StreamYou dance, you dream,You soar, you fly, I’ll follow you Across the sky To valleys deep And canyons old Where sunlight glints In rays of gold On mountain peaks And highland streams I’ll follow you, You hold my dreams Dancing reeds And windswept heights And starry praise of Moonless nights We’ll go together, You and I Across the land, The sea, the sky. |
