Deer Creek Camp, at mile 136, is another one of the great camps in Grand Canyon. This was the second camp where we did a layover so we could hike to Thunder River by way of Surprise Valley.

Deer Creek springs, the beautiful source of Deer Creek that comes gushing out of the canyon wall.

Our first view of Thunder Springs as we descended the switchbacks from Surprise Valley.

Thunder Springs is the source of Thunder River, the shortest river in the U.S.. It only flows about ½ mile before it empties into Tapeats Creek.

Deer Creek Falls, one of the most spectacular sites in Grand Canyon.

Scouting Upset Rapid. The last time we ran the Colorado in 2001 we flipped a boat here so we decided a scouting was in order.

Al skirting the big water of Upset Rapid (Mile 150).

Saying goodbye to the rest of the group the morning of April 28th at our last camp at Sinyala Rapid (Mile 154). Konor and James hiked out Havasu Creek with us so they could get back to school.
