Mount Rose (October 13, 2017)

In October, Bob's nephew Alex Potts came out for a weekend visit. While here we decided to take him on one of the favorite hikes in the region to the summit of Mount Rose (10,776 feet). Bob had done this hike once before with his good friend Mike Brunson in 2015, but neither Lisa or Alex had been on this great 11 mile hike and climb just outside of Reno.

After about two and a half miles from the trailhead is beautiful Galena Falls. As you can see in this picture, our October nights are getting cool as the falls are already starting to freeze up.

After leaving Galena Falls, the trail gets steeper for the next couple of miles, levels out a bit on the ridge where this picture was taken, and then ascends again for the next couple of miles to the summit.

Alex Potts took this picture of the lichen covered rock at the summit of Mount Rose (10,776).

Spending the day with Bob's nephew, Alex, was just great. He's the best!

After leaving the summit Lisa practically ran down the trail to get warmed up.

Back at Galena Falls for a short break and snack.

It was a great hike, although Lisa's feet were a bit sore after 11 miles.
