This year we decided it was time for Hannah to take on a moderately strenuous six mile hike to the summit of Fortification Hill. When arrived at the trailhead Hannah was feeling a little intimidated but we knew she could do it. Unfortunately Lisa couldn't be along this year because she had to stay home with Caleb who had the flu. |
About half way up we took a little break. She was still a little skeptical but not quite as worried as when we first left the truck. |

Looking back where we had come from and the trailhead below. |
Looking up at to were we still had to go to gain the summit plateau above the dark rock band. |
After a number of breaks and a steady pace Hannah was the first one to summit Fortification Hill on January 30, 2010. |
Our beautiful Hannah at the apex of a very wonderful hike in Southern Nevada. |
One of the first things Hannah did when she got on top was to find the summit register and fill it out. If you look closely it reads: "It's not easy! - Hannah Potts a 9 year old. And I'm very impressed with her! Her Dad, Bob Potts" |
There are spectacular views from the summit of Fortification Hill like this one of Hoover Dam and the by-pass bridge construction project. |
Like last year, we were joined by our good friends Martin and Margie Boyett, and Bruce Barton. |
Having fun posing on some rocks that have rolled from the summit rock band and are balanced rather precariously on the ridgeline the trail follows. |
