Fortification Hill (January 30, 2010)

This year we decided it was time for Hannah to take on a moderately strenuous six mile hike to the summit of Fortification Hill. When arrived at the trailhead Hannah was feeling a little intimidated but we knew she could do it.

Unfortunately Lisa couldn't be along this year because she had to stay home with Caleb who had the flu.

About half way up we took a little break. She was still a little skeptical but not quite as worried as when we first left the truck.

Looking back where we had come from and the trailhead below.

Looking up at to were we still had to go to gain the summit plateau above the dark rock band.

After a number of breaks and a steady pace Hannah was the first one to summit Fortification Hill on January 30, 2010.

Our beautiful Hannah at the apex of a very wonderful hike in Southern Nevada.

One of the first things Hannah did when she got on top was to find the summit register and fill it out. If you look closely it reads:

"It's not easy!
- Hannah Potts
a 9 year old.
And I'm very impressed with her!
Her Dad, Bob Potts"

There are spectacular views from the summit of Fortification Hill like this one of Hoover Dam and the by-pass bridge construction project.

Like last year, we were joined by our good friends Martin and Margie Boyett, and Bruce Barton.

Having fun posing on some rocks that have rolled from the summit rock band and are balanced rather precariously on the ridgeline the trail follows.

Our good friends, Margie and Martin Boyett.

Hannah and her proud Dad.
