Nevada Day always falls on the last Friday in October and is a really big deal in Carson City, Nevada's state capital. One of the big events of the day is the parade and pictured here is Caleb's schools entry. In all there were over 200 entries this year. For a short time lapse of the parade, Click Here.

In October, Bob's nephew Alex Potts came out for a weekend visit. While he was here we decided to take him on one of the favorite hikes in the region to the summit of Mount Rose (10,776 feet). Bob had done this hike once before with his good friend Mike Brunson in 2015, but neither Lisa or Alex had been on this great 11 mile hike and climb just outside of Reno.

After about two and a half miles from the trailhead is beautiful Galena Falls. As you can see in this picture, our October nights are getting cool as the falls are already starting to freeze up.

After leaving Galena Falls, the trail gets steeper for the next couple of miles, levels out a bit on the ridge where this picture was taken, and then ascends again for the next couple of miles to the summit.

Spending the day with Bob's nephew Alex was just great. He's the best!

Back at Galena Falls for a short break and snack before walking the last 2.5 miles back to the truck.

In August, Bob and our good friend Steve Hamilton decided to do a triple peak bag of the three of the four highest peaks in the Carson Range: Freel Peak (10,881 feet), Jobs Sister (10,823 feet), and Jobs Peak (10,633 feet); (Mount Rose is the other at 10,776 feet).

This trip was reminiscent and a bit of a play on the numerous times Bob and Steve did triple peak bagging of Mount Charleston (11,920 feet), Mummy Mountain (11,529 feet), and Griffith Peak (11,064 feet) together when they both lived in Southern Nevada.

Most of this trip was off-route, but there were portions of it that followed the beautiful Tahoe Rim Trail that's marked all along with these cool trail markers.

One of the challenges we faced this year were lightning strike forest fires. This was a small burn right above our house that was started by lighting on August 23rd .

Soon after school started Hannah and a number of other Sierra Lutheran High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society. We are so proud of her!
