One of the activities (along with mountain biking and hiking) we wanted to do while visiting our friends Jim and Mari Germain in Moab was to take a river trip. The Fisher Towers trip, or Moab Daily as it is commonly called, was the perfect trip. It is a 13 mile trip down the Colorado River from Hittle Bottom to Takeout Beach flowing right past the turnoff to Jim and Mari's Bed and Breakfast in Castle Valley. In the spring there are a couple of rapids that run up to Class III which was the perfect next step for our kids after last year's flat water trip down the Green River through Labyrithn Canyon. |

Very happy to be back on the water again. |
Our friends Jim and Mari coming alongside in their inflatable kayak or "Duckie" as they're commonly called. |
Also joining us were Jim and Mari's son Ray with his girlfriend Annie. |
Getting warmed up in the small rollers for the bigger rapids coming up. |
For this trip we rented a little 12 foot oar boat that was really manuverable but kind of squirly too. It's kind of funny comparing this boat to the picture of us in the 16 foot boat we'd rented last year. |
We don't have pictures of it, but both Duckie boats got dumped in White Rapid. White Rapid is the biggest rapid in this section of the Colorado River and was running a strong Class III. When both of them took it head on the rapid won and neither made it through. This is a picture of Jim and Mari after we got them and everyone collected again. Notice how their hats (and Mari's sunglasses) are suspiciously missing. |
Dear Hannah taking her turn at the oars. |
What you do for one you have to do for the other. |
