Mike Brunson and Bob at the East Mesa trailhead before making the 2.5 mile hike to the head of Jolley Gulch on a beautiful May morning in Zion National Park.

About 2 miles into the hike looking back south down Jolley Gulch, the Clear Creek drainage, the East Entrance of Zion National Park and Checkerboard Mesa beyond.

Panorama of the same.

The head of Jolley Gulch.

Mike setting up the anchor for the first 175 foot rappel. The East Mesa trail goes right past this drop-in and can be seen in the middle left of this picture.

Looking right up the beautiful flute of the first rappel.

Mike starting down the second two-stage rappel.

Finishing it off.

Although the technical section of Jolley Gulch is short, it is well worth doing. The trail to and from the slot are great as they wind through spectacular country that is much less crowded than other parts of the park. It is a great 2-4 hour canyon adventure.
